Tulia Group CIC Receives Public Health England Grant for Improved Migrants’ Wellbeing.

Tulia Group CIC has been awarded a grant from Public Health England to deliver a groundbreaking new initiative titled “Thrive in the UK: Navigating Life, Love, and Wellbeing as an Immigrant.”

This free six-week programme will launch in Coventry and online, offering migrants and new arrivals the tools, knowledge, and confidence to thrive, from understanding their rights and accessing healthcare, to strengthening family relationships and building community connections.

But at the heart of this programme is something deeper: tackling HIV stigma and improving health outcomes among migrant communities.

Why This Programme Matters

Migrants play a vital role in the UK’s cultural, social, and economic fabric, yet many face unique challenges when settling into life here. From navigating complex immigration systems to overcoming language barriers and accessing healthcare, the journey can be isolating.

For some, stigma and misinformation around health, especially HIV, make things even harder.

According to recent Public Health England data, 3,198 migrants accessed HIV treatment in England in 2023 after being diagnosed abroad. In Coventry, one-third of new HIV diagnoses were made at a late stage of infection, a stage where treatment is less effective and health risks are higher.

Despite huge advances in HIV care, stigma continues to silence conversations and discourage testing. Thrive in the UK aims to break that silence.

What “Thrive in the UK” Is About

At its core, Thrive in the UK is about empowerment. Over six weeks, participants will take part in interactive sessions led by experts, from solicitors and counsellors to nurses and community leaders.

The programme combines practical information with emotional wellbeing and health education, helping migrants build resilience in every area of life.

Programme Highlights:

  • Free six-week course, in-person and online

  • Expert guest speakers – lawyers, nurses, counsellors, and community leaders

  • Health and wellbeing education, including HIV awareness and confidential testing options

  • Access to a private online community for peer support

  • Certificate of Completion endorsed by Tulia Group CIC and partners

  • Graduation celebration to recognise participant achievements

“Safer Together” – A Companion Campaign

Alongside the Thrive in the UK programme, Tulia Group CIC is launching Safer Together , a companion awareness campaign focused on breaking HIV stigma and promoting early testing.

Through partnerships with local NHS services, the campaign encourages migrants to take control of their health by accessing free and confidential HIV and STI testing.

  • Testing is available at West Orchard Shopping Centre, Coventry CV1 1Call 0300 247 0069 to book an appointment
Home testing kits can also be ordered through The Sexual Health Hub

“Many people from African and other ethnic minority backgrounds are diagnosed late because of fear or misinformation,” says Rumbidzai Bvunzawabaya, Solicitor and Founder of Tulia Group CIC.

“This programme helps break that silence by linking health education with real-life tools for living well in the UK. It’s about creating safe spaces where people can learn, connect, and thrive.”
